Track 2 - "Push":
It’s 10:35 p.m. and our self-imposed deadline is inching
ever closer. Chris, Dave & Knappy are putting the finishing
touches on some interlude tracks…
Chris starts to lay a bass line with a really cool sounding upright
bass patch that gives the track new life. This started out as
an instrumental, but it’s way too cool for that now…
Dave and Knappy noticed that the bass line consisted of nine
notes (Chris always was the clever one) and this inspired them
to write and record a rap to the new track. It was very spontaneous
and one of the more enjoyable sessions.
The live feel of “Push” seemed to naturally blend
with the intro lounge scene and that’s why it’s #2.
It
made sense at the time…
“Nine lives left – Push up the fader”
(Whatever the hell that means…I told you we were under extreme
self-imposed pressure)
E-Figurines, a European toy manufacturer
reproduced this landmark session, but Engine #9 was unhappy
with the finished product so it was shelved. |
